Thunderclap – a book launch promotion tool

Do you want to get your message out to thousands of people and tell them about your book?

One of the ways I’m promoting my upcoming book launch is by using a tool called Thunderclap.

Described as an online flash mob, it’s a great way to get a message out to many social media followers at any one time, allowing you to reach more people with your promotion.

What is Thunderclap?

According to their website (www.thunderclap.it), Thunderclap is “the world’s first crowdspeaking platform. Over 7 million people have donated their social reach for ideas and causes that matter. More than 12 billion Thunderclap messages have been seen by people across 238 countries and territories. It allows a single message to be mass-shared, flash mob-style, so it rises above the noise of your social networks.”

How does it work?

Thunderclap allows you to set up a Tweet, Facebook or Tumblr post which then sends a single message that is mass-shared alongside all the other supporters’ messages on the same date at the same time, e.g. the date of a book launch or another date-specific promotion, then you can ask your friends, colleagues and clients to register to help you.

How do you set it up?

First you need to set up your Thunderclap. When I set up my message, it took less than an hour. All you need is:

  • Your name and a short summary of what you do
  • The title of your Thunderclap (i.e. your book title)
  • Your message (in less than 119 characters)
  • A link to your launch page
  • The date that you want your message to be broadcast
  • Your goal in terms of minimum number of supporters
  • A photo
  • And a bit about your story

Then you can press publish, and once approved, you can ask people to sign up.

How do your supporters sign up?

With Thunderclap, if you take their free option, you need at least 100 supporters to sign up for your promotion. That means that you need to get your message out far and wide, and this is a great incentive for sharing the details about your book.

Tell people what to do and how to do it – which is one of the reasons I wrote this blog post!

It takes a minute for your supporters to sign up and agree to share your message with their Twitter, Facebook, and/or Tumblr followers. Then on the day of your launch, your message is automatically shared with their followers, without any of you remembering to do a thing.
